Jose Alvarado, 41, of Bridgeport, who told officers he was an innocent bystander, was later determined by detectives to have taken part in the assault of a Derby man, has been charged with assault after being arrested by Connecticut State Police and handed over to Westport Police.
The brawl took place around 9 a.m. Oct. 24, when officers were dispatched to the area of 550 Post Road East on a report of a fight in the roadway. Arriving officers located two males fighting in the middle of the road in front of the Volvo dealership, police said.
It appeared the men were involved in a motor vehicle accident on Post Road, and a fight followed. Officers learned there was a disturbance between the involved parties in Derby, before the Westport incident.
According to police, Fernando Morales chased the other vehicle in his own sedan from Derby, striking the other vehicle operated by Rafael Valle on Post Road. Valle fled his vehicle on foot but was chased and caught by Morales in the street. During the fight, an unknown party pulled up to the scene in a separate vehicle. The male exited his SUV and then kicked Valle, who was on the ground, in the head, police said.
Detectives later learned the unknown male was not a helpful bystander as claimed, but was actually Alvarado, who knew Morales.
Alvardo was released after posting $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court on Fe. 13.
Morales and Valle were previously arrested for their involvement in the incident.
